Review/Critique: Catherine

Catherine: Classic Atlus Games Preface:  The first thing I have to say before getting into this review is that I did  not  play Catherine: Fullbody, I played  Catherine: Classic . I don't have a PS4 and Catherine:Classic is the only option that's on PC. Hopefully I will get a PS4 relatively soon, but they cost money and that is something I am lacking. It's important to let you guys know that though, as they are very different games. It's very likely I would have liked Catherine: Fullbody more or less than I liked Catherine: Classic but that is not the game I played. With that out of the way, let's get into the review! Expectations: Normally I think it's better to go into games without knowing much about them, but that wasn't really a choice for Catherine . Not only is it a pretty infamous game, it's one that wears its themes very loudly. To emphasize this point, when I told my friend I was playing Catherine he looked at me strangely an

Review/Critique: The Picture of Dorian Gray

The Picture of Dorian Gray Oscar Wilde "If it were I who was to be always young, and the picture that was to grow old! For that - for that - I would give everything!" - Dorian Gray Expectations: I had already read the first two chapters before choosing this book for the month of February. I liked what I had read a lot and my girlfriend Allie gives this book praises for days so I expected to really like this book. Needless to say, I absolutely adored "The Picture of Dorian Gray ". It fully lived up to my expectations of it, and has become a book that after more pondering could easily end up a 6/6 for me. If you want to go into this book without any knowledge (something I do recommend) then hopefully that is enough of a blurb to convince you to check this novel out, but if you need more convincing let me attempt to do so below. Review/Critique: To summarize a book like "The Picture of Dorian Gray " is not an easy task I am findin

Review/Critique: Amélie

Amélie Jean-Pierre Jeunet Expectations: I honestly did not have many expectations going into this film. I knew " Amélie " was a pretty popular European film, I knew it was a love story, and I knew it was French. That's about it. I think this is often the best way to go into a movie, knowing very little, and I would say that my lack of knowledge likely aided my enjoyment of this film, although it's impossible to say since I can never watch this film for the first time again. Since it would be rather ironic if I did not follow up by saying "turn back now to stay unspoiled and experience the movie with no prior knowledge" I will tell you to do so. If all you wanted was a rating you can see above that I did like the movie, and I think you probably will too (especially if you like films by a Mister Wes Anderson as it feels very similar in tone and style to his newer films). If you are going to disregard my warning as would not surprise

Review: Loveless

Loveless My Bloody Valentine (1991) Expectations: To be honest, I really thought I was going to adore this album. I don't have all that much experience with Shoegaze as a genre; however, the small amount of it I've heard I have liked, and this albums themes seemed right up my artistic alley. Anyway, what I expected was an album that was the quintessence of Shoegaze, the inspiration that every future sound would try and capture. What I got though was... well, probably what I should have expected since it's right there on the album cover. I got something I have heard a million times, but with a negative color pallet. You can almost make out the sound, but right when you think you've got it, you realize it was something different.          Perhaps I would view this album more favorably if I did not have any expectations for it, and maybe after listening to it more in the future I will determine that I like it a lot more than I do now; however, as

Picks: March

Hello everyone! March is well underway and now that I have officially finished moving into my new apartment I am ready to release and start consuming my picks for March. To start off, the theme for this month is nature , and the themes for the next two months are going to be a bit different than how I've previously been doing things. Before I would come up with the theme before selecting my picks; however, over the course of the next three months I will be reading a trilogy, so the themes will be planned around each individual book of the three books instead of the other way around. I have been itching to read this book series and figured I could fit it in pretty well with the format of "Year of Critique". With that out of the way, let's get into my picks for March! Book: Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring Author: J. R. R. Tolkien Why I chose this book: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy! Yes this is the series that I so badly want to read. After wat
